2:00 a.m. Green Guest House
Mae Sot, Thailand
Today (I can say today because it is technically already Thursday morning), I am getting on my scooter and leaving Mae Sot for a short trip. It could be a two-parter trip including the two towns of Tak and Kamphaeng Phet. It could be a three-parter with an additional stop at Sukhothai. We shall see how it goes.
What I know for sure is that I’ll be on the road in a few hours, and tomorrow’s ride will end in Tak City. A wonderful Mystery Benefactor booked me two nights back at the comfortable SOHO Boutique Hotel. I’ll spend Thursday night and Friday night there. And on Saturday morning, I will ride to Kamphaeng Phet. I’ll stay there for a few days. And after that, I might loop back to Mae Sot through Sukhothai.
I just spent a few minutes looking at Google Maps, and I got a few ideas for little side trips I can take today. Every time I’ve ridden on Highway 12, I’ve noticed a road that loops to the north. I’ve always wanted to take that road, and today I just might do that. The road loops through some nice countryside nestled between the mountains. In addition to the nice countryside I expect to find, there is a river, a nice resort, and even a fancy coffee shop called 227 Coffee. The loop as I’ve mapped it out comes to between twenty and twenty-five kilometers. I’ve also long wanted to drop by the Chao Por Phawo Shrine. I’ve ridden past it so many times, but I’ve never checked it out. I will do that today. And I hope to drop by the original Muser Market. On top of all that, there might be a lot of new landslides on the highway. And then I have the SOHO Boutique Hotel waiting for me at the end. It could be a full day.
