YouTube: Daryl Surprises Us with Stops at TWO Amazing Local Eateries in Kuala Lumpur

October 31, 2025

VIDEO DESCRIPTION:

My friend Daryl often has things to do that take him all over Kuala Lumpur and even to the outer districts and other cities. And he occasionally invites me to hop into the car and just go with him. I don’t ever have a particular reason to go along. My presence is not required. But I just enjoy running the errands and going where he goes. I turn his errand run into my own personal road trip.

And on this day, our friend Jamie hopped into the car with us. And then Daryl surprised both of us with stops at two incredibly good and interesting local eateries. One was for breakfast and the other was for lunch.

And in between, while Daryl was taking care of his business, Jamie and I went for a walk and checked out a very nice local park. It was a great day, and I hope the video of the day is just as enjoyable.

VIDEO TRANSCRIPTS:

Planet Doug interlude. Okay. Add to my KL vignettes. Oh, you already started today. Well, I’ve always got a KL vignette video on the go. Okay. So, I already like, why the name vignette? Vignette is like a little scene, like a short scene, a moment. I see. So rather than making a whole video about today, it’s just a little clip, little vignette here, little later on, maybe I’ll have dinner here, a little clip there, a little vignette. It’s a fancy way of saying clips, I guess. Video clips.

Yeah, I don’t even know what to say anymore. I don’t know. Now I’m all confused. All right, Jamie, take it away. Yeah, take it away, Jamie.

I often start this like jumping ahead in time. That’s kind of my hook to get into the next thing. So, jumped ahead in time once more in the car with the boys. There’s Daryl in the back. I forgot your name while I was talking. Oh, is that terrible? I was thinking too much. You’re not in your element today. Yeah, definitely not. I’m still editing in my mind. It’s kind of crazy. Jumped ahead in time once more in the car with Daryl and Jamie in the back there. And Daryl reached out the other day and said he’s going off on one of these things he does with his life. He’s got so many things going on, and he knows I love to hop in the car and come along wherever he’s going. So here I am. And then Jamie, yeah, he’s the same. He’s an explorer. So if a car is going somewhere interesting, he’ll hop in. So anyway, we’re on our way to a hotel in another part of town. It’s a hotel I’ve never been to. I can say the name of the hotel, The Bangi Business Hotel. And then what’s the name of the neighborhood? Is it Bangi? Yeah, it’s called Bangi. Bangi. So the Bangi District. I don’t think I’ve ever been there. Haven’t been to the hotel. You’ve been to Kajang though. Yeah, I’ve been to Kajang. So yeah, I’m going to check out this hotel. Daryl’s going to do his thing there. There’s a nearby park. Jamie and I might check out the park while Daryl is doing his thing. There’s golf courses there. Yeah. Just hopped in the car just to go for a ride. When people are running errands, I just love to come along with them. So, and today might be a little bit of an audio test as well. There’s the audio testing never ends on Planet Doug. You didn’t? Oh, no. He’s pretending. He always pretends to forget things. Long time ago, Daryl let me test his Deity D4 Mini microphone. And during that testing using a GoPro Hero 9, it didn’t really work. It was very technical, but I just don’t know. I couldn’t see how it would work. The audio wasn’t working out. Ah, there it is. There. But I was thinking now I’ve got the GoPro Hero 12, which operates differently. So, I’m going to do another test with the D4 Mini. I’ll talk about that when I do it. And I have a different lav mic as well right here. And so I’m just curious what this lav mic sounds. Nobody cares about any of these technical tests, but that’s what I’m doing right now as well. Turns out Daryl had a surprise in store for us. And before we head to this Bangi Business Hotel, we’re stopping for breakfast at quite an interesting, perhaps fancy café. It’s very cozy, I would say, and the price is very good, actually. So, yeah, but we’re just going to have very little because we’re going to have a very filling lunch later. Okay. And lunch afterwards. Yeah. So, I knew there was a reason I came along. But, and the audio testing continues. I put a lavalier mic on Daryl plugged into a Rode Wireless Go, and I have a lavalier mic plugged into my Rode Wireless Go. Jamie unfortunately is left out. I don’t have a third one, but, and we’ve got a leaf blower right behind us. That’s kind of a good test of the audio. The idea is by using a lavalier mic, it isolates our voices more and cuts out all this background noise. That’s the theory. We’ll see what it sounds like. All right, lead the way. So, the place is called E by Eden with the corner in it. E by Eden right there. I’m going to do the intro here, but you guys are free to decide whether you want to see it on the inside or the outside and also depend on the crowd. Feel free to order drinks if you like. If you can, maybe just get me a coffee. Okay. Yeah. But don’t order food. I’ll settle that. Yeah. Okay. I’ll order the food later. Okay. All right. But the unique stuff is if you walk through the door, they display everything there. The most amazing thing about this place is the kue. They have a lot of the Malay kue, and they are on display. So you just take by piece or a set of three or something like that. Okay. All right.

Kue is like a cake, right? Kue. There are many varieties, but it’s a type of cake. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Cuz there’s also kway, which is the noodles. Yeah. Yeah. H, which I don’t know. I always look at it and I go ki or something. But what do I know about pronunciation? Yeah, we’re getting away from the leaf blower. So yeah, Daryl’s shooting a video for Wander Eats about this place. So he’s back there doing his thing, and Jamie and I have gone on ahead to do some reconnaissance. So here it is. E by Eden.

Daryl knows all the places, and he said, “Yeah, we can decide if we want to sit outside or inside.”

We are the place for your morning coffee, afternoon tea, or evening dessert. Our coffee is roasted to perfection. Outdoor menu to entice people in. Nasi Asian breakfast and lontong goreng rendang. Oh, so like some rendang. More Asian breakfast. Nasi lemak biasa. And then moving into lunch. Some western dishes. Mushroom soup, nachos, more western French fries. All right. Ooh. Okay. The menu goes on and on. Steaks, fish, looks like some pastas, and then the drinks menu. So, here’s the inside. Oh, we might have to sit outside in terms of seating. Oh, yeah. And Daryl mentioned all of the cakes. The kue he called it. So they have all of these on display here. Nice. Some baked goods. Takeaway nasi lemak I guess.

Two ringgit for three pieces or 80 cents per piece. All right.

Yeah. I don’t know much about all these fancy little cakes. I guess you would just get yourself an assortment. Wow. Goes on. I like the kati pop. Dadeng. Kati pop. 1.2 ringgit each.

Samosa dadeng.

And I am famous for always picking the wrong table. But if I were going to pick a table, I would pick this one. My reasoning being there’s like music playing somewhere down here farther away. And then instead of being right on the sidewalk for this table, this one has a bit of a buffer. This would be my choice. So, it would be more comfortable sitting inside, but they got a big group in there right now, so we can’t sit inside.

So, we did end up sitting out here at this table. Yeah. And hopefully the music coming from next door quiets down a little bit. Sounds like it’s like some kind of a gym or something over there with the pounding rock and roll music. And the idea for this breakfast was Jamie was in charge of picking out some cakes, the kue, and he grabbed an assortment for the table. And then you ordered drinks for everybody. Yeah. Ice cham for me. No. No, they don’t have it. Kopi ais, which is fine. And a lontong. Is that like a Malaysian dish or Indonesian? I think of it as Indonesian. Clean. Okay. Yeah. Cuz in Indonesia, one of my favorites was langsat. I had it for breakfast a lot. All right. So, you will have the I guess the Malaysian version. I see. And a lot of people also claim that either Melaka or Penang that originated from because it’s very shrimp pasty and a lot of vegetables and herbs as well. So. Oh. What? What’s that? Museum. Museum. Okay. Yeah. I need to be a good YouTuber. Or is that vegetable? Sorry. Yeah. Has vegetables. Correct.

Was that on the menu or was it on display? Just grab it. Yeah. Ah, okay. Cool. Cool. Cool. So, you can see the broth. But the non is the, it’s the rice cake. Sorry. Sorry. Yeah, that’s a clear one with the one we saw just now. My bad. Yeah. Laksa. Yeah. Laksa. Yeah. So, they have potatoes, some cake, fish cakes, carrots, cabbage. Yeah. Long beans as well. So, let me grab some bowls so we can split it up. All right. Yeah, there’s something going on here that Daryl is pretty excited about. One of the kue. Very green. Yeah, very, very green. My favorite stuff here. It’s full of coconut. Ah, you can smell it. And pandan. Is that where the green comes from? Yeah.

I become quite fond of pandan for some reason, and the is a little bit more creamy than other places. Other places is like sweet and some pandan, but that’s about it. Okay, some kaya makes me a kayan kaya. All we need is our coffee now. Oh yeah, forgot about that. On the way. On the way. How can I forget about coffee? Yeah. So, they do have a lot of the dishes here. That’s afternoon only. All right. So, you can masak your usual. And the price is pretty fair. I would say 14.90 for the daging salai. Yeah, great. And even the char kuey 6.90. A lot of fluid options here.

And let’s do the split.

One for Doug. One for Jamie, five for me. That’s what I was going to say. The guy doing the counting usually ends up with more. One for you, two for me, one for you, three for me.

So the one actually I was thinking about was laksa. It’s not laksa, it’s called laksa. Oh, okay. Yeah. So, but yeah, let’s not over order, shall we? Yeah. What’s the distinction between laksa laksa? Well, that’s a good question. Like, the flavor profile is different. Yeah, there’s everything is very, very. Yeah, that’s right as well. Yeah. So, laksam is more premium. We saw it just now. That’s. Yeah. Yeah. And the noodle is different, I would say. Yeah.

Curry. Correct. I’ve been on a real rice diet lately. I often have tons and tons of noodles, but lately, for whatever reason, just rice, rice, rice, rice, rice, which I really like. Rice.

Well divided there, Daryl. Looks great. All right.

Yeah. Okay. I’ve kind of given up on hot coffee in fancy restaurants cuz it never is hot. So I always default now to iced coffee of any kind. Just at least you know what you’re getting. Cold coffee. That’s not a bad coffee. And it is hot. I think super hot.

All right. First bite. Yeah. Let’s dive in. Looks the, I mean the broth looks amazing. Thick. Kind of creamy. Very nice. Oh yeah. This actually reminds me of the Nanyang curry chicken that I had from Oriental Kopi. Similar flavor. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Very close. Yeah. Daryl ordered another meal. Oh, in this one you, it’s laksam, which I don’t know what makes a laksam a laksam, but let me grab the camera. Get a little bit of a. This was the one I originally because it has all the curled up, and because it’s curled it. Yes. And the shrimp paste sauce is. Yeah. And as you can see, it’s curled up, right? Yeah. Yeah. Absorbs the broth very nicely. Right. Right. Right. So, the secret is in the sauce. Thank you. You’re welcome. Hey, wait, wait, wait. Last one. The sauce Michelin style.

All right. Thank you, sir. You’re most welcome. I didn’t know you were such a foodie, Jamie. Like you’re, you talk about food in a really knowledgeable way. I’m not really foodie, I don’t think. I just kind of pick up some things here. Yeah, you seem to. It lodges in your brain. It never does with me. Like, this isn’t a sambal, but I don’t know that. Why isn’t it a sambal? What he mentioned there? I guess the chunkiness of it, like the way it looks. Okay. Like I don’t know what makes a sambal different from anything else? It’s all the same to me. It’s not really a sambal because it’s more, there’s no shrimp paste. It’s not all those things inside. But, or just now you. Usually if you order the, was that the nasi lemak, the sambal is like great sweet. Yeah. So this is more like a chili paste for the compliment. To me, it’s all the same thing. Okay. I’m not up on the subtleties. And one thing I realized is like quite often I don’t get the aroma of of food. It’s like I’m not smelling it. So, really, this one is pretty strong. Yeah. Yeah. I’m not really. Not really smelling anything. Okay. Something. Yeah. So, these are all curled up, and let’s give this a try.

Yeah, shrimpy seafoody flavor. It didn’t hit me until a few seconds had passed and very soft noodles. Yeah, the noodles very soft. So good. So they do this dish well. Yeah. At this place. Very well. As I think, oh, you were outside, I was sharing with Jamie is that this dish is either you love it or you hate it, and one of the snacks I had at the night market was otak-otak, and he gave us a selection, and then, but they’re not labeled, so I don’t know which is which, right, so we’re opening the thing up like okay, is this the shrimp or is this the prawn or is this the fish, and we’re just kind of guessing. But the first one I had had a really strong fish flavor. Like just wow. But you said you didn’t have any that tasted like that. No. Maybe I got both of them. I think I had oyster and shrimp. No, the two I think I had, and I told that before I’ve had otak-otak different times, and it’s never been one of my favorite, but I think it possibly because I always got a real fishy, that’s not a flavor that’s pleasing to me.

The first time I’ve had it with oyster and shrimp, actually I prefer the one with cuttlefish, yeah, it has a better firmness to. Yeah. So, but originally is fish. Yeah. Yeah.

And the place where there’s a unique take on is at Johor. This guy at the market was Mo. Yeah. That’s the. Yeah, because I thought it was, cuz he put it on his sign. I figured it had to be special. Yeah. Original from that. Last time, I think it was late 20s, I went to Melaka for the very first time. So me and my friend, we were doing a sales run, and the manager from Melaka took us to the one of the popular spot, and that was my first time seeing the long version of, usually in Penang or Melaka is a triangle shape, is steamed, right, so, and it’s more, what’s that, it’s better, yeah. So because it’s steam, right? So that was the first time I saw it because it was grilled and all that as well. So we initially ordered 20 for three of us to share. At the end of the night, we ate 120. It’s that good. Damn. Yeah, we had the long ones, and it was quite funny because it looked like a tongue, flopping around like kind, but actually because when we were there, we were drinking, we’re talking about work and all that, it just passes. Passes by the time and finish, and the next one you open over, open over, open over, open over, open over, open over, open over, open over, open over, open.

What is, I believe? I believe it’s last time it was room rentals. Oh, but now it’s, they move into like budget hotel hotels. I love all these huge apartment buildings. We’re down around Bukit Jalil. Oh, no. This is called Seri Kembangan. Bukit Jalil is the other side. Yeah. Right there. Palace of the Golden Horses. Yeah. That’s the first place I stayed when I came to Malaysia. Wow. That is some fancy place. Yes, it was. I certainly didn’t pay for. I never heard of it. Look at the plane. Look at that plane. What is it? That was not there when. Yeah. Yeah. It was not there. It was incredible place to stay. It is. Really enjoyable. It was the first five-star hotel in Malaysia. Really? Yeah. First back in the day, cuz the mines is over here. We took the shuttle, the water shuttle to the mines. Yeah. Couple of times. The shop, only shopping mall with the indoor water. Indoor water. Yeah. Amazing breakfast. Enjoyed that very much. And we’ve since driven on to where Daryl has some business to conduct here at the Bangi Business Hotel. And Daryl, he said it was okay to talk about this a little bit. He’s involved with a company that offers automated, it’s like self-check-in systems for hotels, and his company has put this into place, so you can check into the hotel like self-check-in services, and you get your room card key, and then you can return your room card key, and depending on how they set up the machine. The machine could also dispense snacks and drinks and toiletries. So, it’s basically self-check-in for the products, right? So, we just left Daryl at the hotel. He has, he’s filming something there. So, he’s setting up his Pocket 3 using my brand new tripod. I’m very excited about that. My tripod came in handy for him and for me. And now I’m testing a new microphone. I’ve done tests with this microphone in the past. This is the Deity D4 Mini. And right now I’m recording audio with only the shotgun microphone pointing at me. And I’m curious whether, like soft-spoken Jamie, whether it will pick up his voice. So, Jamie, where are we, and where are we going at the moment? We’re at a corner, and you probably can’t hear me because of all the traffic noise. I don’t know. That’s what we’re here to test. We’re heading towards a park. I’m going to explore Bangi.

Yeah. So, did it record his voice? And does it record mine? Of course, the problem with the shotgun mic, and it’s a problem with all shotgun mics, is it’s pointing at me. I don’t know. Can we cross? What’s going on here? Well, it says no. But, but now if I turn the GoPro around, now the microphone isn’t recording my voice anymore. Why don’t we just go more or less? Yeah, it’s a directional shotgun mic. But this Deity has a trick up its sleeve in that it has a secondary input. So I can record audio from the Deity and from my Rode at the same time. So the idea is to be able to use the shotgun mic, and then when I turn the camera around, I can use the audio from the Rode. That’s the basic idea. So I’m going to test the Rode now. I’m going to plug it in and see what happens.

Oh, there’s a giant sign. Taman Tasik Cempaka something something at BBB. That is one giant sign. You got to be like 100 meters away in order to be able to read it. But that’s an impressive sign. But yeah, we’re in the park. So, I’ll call that a win.

With me navigating these days, we could have ended up 10 miles away from the park. They got drinks here. 10 ringgit. Get yourself a scooter. Oh, yeah. Today’s Saturday, right? It’s the weekend. So, hello Milo.

Milo for sale. Dutch Lady milk. Some snacks. Green tea. Mango juice. Hello.

Candy. Bubble toys for the kids. Some. Yeah. Planes. Hello. Hello. Oh, yeah. They even have, they have the bubble soap here. Yeah. You can get your own from the bucket. You get your own, and then you can make your, make your own bubbles. I would grab a cold drink, but since I’m testing the camera, adding a drink to the mix, suddenly, actually, I think I will get a drink. Yeah, let’s go get a drink. I can handle holding a drink and do, do this at this. I’m a professional YouTuber. I should be able to do this. Okay. Are you going to get a drink? I think I am. Yes. I think I want the green fruit. Mango fruit. Yes. A manga susu? Yes. I guess he’s going over there. Okay, just one. Just one. Okay. What’s that? Okay. Thank you. Thank you.

Oh, so what are you going to get? Okay. Lychee jelly. Jelly. You need jelly. Jelly. For me, no. No jelly. No. So, that wasn’t super easy holding the camera and doing all that at the same time.

But, yeah, she had two QR codes. One down there on a tray, but that one didn’t work. But then she had another one that I could use. So, you got a tea ais. Looks good. I like the color. Mhm. Reminds me a little bit of Thai tea. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I have to adjust my grip on my drink.

There we go.

Nice and cold. It’s a very lightly flavored kind of. I think with all that ice, it ends up getting watered down. Yeah, very watered down. Kind of something going on down here. Is that the national anthem? Sounds like it. Yeah. Oh, yeah. People have stopped moving. I guess we should, too.

Just noticed the national anthem is playing. Everybody around us has stopped moving. At least everybody in earshot of the national anthem.

There we go. Except for Lewis Hamilton Jr. over there. Yeah.

So, something special is going on here. Everybody’s in matching shirts.

Any guesses what it could be? Not at all.

Jamie is talking to some people over there, figuring out what this is all about. I’ll ask him when he comes over. I have no idea. I guess I’d have to do a Google Translate on the signs to figure this out.

So, what’s, what’s happening? Not, not fully sure. There’s not really performances going on. I asked her that, this is some type of special day here that, they’ve got stuff like this. It’s so hard to figure these things out. I’m not real sure, and other than that, it’s just going on for half the day. Okay. We never did find out what this is all about. Jamie spoke to a woman there for a long time, asked her a lot of questions like, basically, what is this about, like what is going on, and after a long conversation, at the end of it, he was no further ahead, none the wiser, but when I did a translate, something like River Celebration Day, if that makes any sense, but who these people are, why they’re celebrating, why, neither of us could figure it out despite asking people questions, made no sense to us, but anyway, we’re just going for a walk around the park. Yeah, I think we can exit. We have to exit from the park here onto the street, and then we can go around, cross this river, come in on the other side, and then we’re going to walk around the park. And yeah, just going for a walk. Pretty hot today. And of course, me being a dummy, I wore long pants, so I’m sweltering. Jamie’s more set up over there.

So, there’s the sun guy. That’s what we’re celebrating, River Celebration Day. But who they are, how they’re celebrating, why they’re celebrating, we don’t know.

That was just saying to Jamie, I’ve discovered that pattern in most countries I’ve ever visited where, of course, you have trouble communicating because of the language barrier. That’s a given. But there’s more than the language barrier going on. We’re asking what seemed like quite obvious questions, and yet we can never get the answer to that question, and there’s something else going on. I think I thought about this a lot in the past, and my idea is that the other person from that country just assumes a lot of knowledge, like we know the basics. So they dive into these little details, and we try to get them to back up, like okay, but what, like what is this, like who are you people, and why are you gathered here? What, like what are you doing here? But they never understand that we don’t understand anything, like we need the big picture, but their answers are always very specific. So I think that’s what’s going on, but I don’t know that for sure. Just stopped here cuz, yeah, it’s a nice view of the park. Taman Tasik Cempaka or something like that. I’d have to look it up on Google Maps to get the name. Yeah, we’re on the other side now. And nice little park for kids. All these jungle gym things to climb around on. Very cool.

Yeah, we made it to the far end of the park, and Jamie spotted this woman out there. Yeah, she’s actually strung a fishing net all the way across. Probably illegal according to city bylaws anyway, wouldn’t you think? But I can’t imagine, you’re supposed to be fishing in this pond or this river, whatever it is. But certainly setting up a complete net is probably not something the authorities are thrilled about. Looks like it’s been there a while. Yeah. Yeah.

But yeah, we noticed there’s a lot of fish in here. We were down near the shore, and we saw like a big kerfuffle at the surface of the lake. A lot of fish. The ones you saw were probably bigger than this, right? Yeah. Yeah. These are all little fish, but there’s a lot of them in there. Yeah. I was just saying to Jamie, it’s a nice little park. It’s not overwhelming. It’s not like a park. Some of the big city parks are almost too big. This one you can kind of get your mind around. Walk around it. Very pleasant. Yeah. Look at all those fish. They escaped from the net.

Yeah. Interesting.

This is kind of cool. You can see behind me there those plastic sheets spread out on the grass. I saw things like this in Indonesia. I don’t know if it’s the same here, but in Indonesian parks, people would put out all these toys, like in a sandbox, and then children could come, and they pay, like their parents would pay, and their kids could play with the toys. Here, they might be part of a community event where they just set this up for free, and families can come, and their kids can play with all the dinosaur toys and stuff like that. Or it could be someone’s just running a little business in the park, too. It’s kind of cool. And Daryl has brought us to the next spot on our tour today. Look, check this out. Very popular place. Kind of like an ikan bakar place. And there’s, I guess there’s all kinds of little barbecue restaurants. Coconut shake here. And I don’t know exactly what all the food is here that they make, but Daryl says the famous Mark Wiens came here and shot a video.

So, it’s the kind of place where they, they have a, they have a big grill going, and. You’re welcome to go in. Okay. I asked permission. Cool. Cool. Cool. And they, they cook with coconut, coconut shells. Coconut. Yeah. Ah. You can really feel the heat coming out of there. That’s crazy. And wow.

There’s some of the finished duck or something like that up there. Geese. Yeah, you really feel the heat coming off of there. Thank you. Thank you. And H. So, we’re going to go have some lunch. I’m not filming nearly as professionally as Mark would have done, obviously, with all this fancy gear and skill. I’m just here to have lunch and film a little bit of it along the way. So Daryl tells me that this is the hot spot here, the popular place, and like for the grill. So they got grills up here. And then this other place over there, that’s where you get the roast duck. I guess the roast duck is where we were. Well, I went to look behind the scenes where they were grilling the duck. I think that ends up over there. And maybe this grill is a different grill. I’m not sure. But yeah, they’ve got the fish on the grill.

And interestingly enough, this microphone that I’m using is Daryl’s. And he bought it for precisely this situation where, with the microphone pointing forward, he can get the sound of the grilling of the fish on the grill. And then over here, they have squid also grilling. And I guess this is the popular place, but I think I’m going to go, I’m not a big fan of fish or squid. I can have it, but it’s not a big favorite of mine. So, ooh, look at all that sauce getting on there. Very fancy.

Daryl tells me a lot of YouTubers come here. It’s one of the famous places. So.

But this is all fish and squid. And these are all the grill stuff. Yeah. So, the other side is the creamy chuck. Okay. So, there are two different. Yeah. So, actually the cream on the yellow ch for them, yellow chia. I see. Yeah. But they, but when it came to grilling, I only saw fish here. Yeah, they, they are grilling the sweet. Yeah, right. But they don’t grill chicken or duck or anything like, only seafood. Yeah, they do have the, I think they do have all the shop here as well. I’m not sure. I don’t see any.

Okay. Cuz when it comes to the fish, it would kind of be lost on me, cuz I’m not a big fish guy. So.

And Jamie seems to have found a home over here. Oh, look at that. Okay, he’s really getting pretty fancy over here. Look at this.

Okay, earlier there was the prawn. That’s the fish. So you take, one thing about here today is sauces. I see. You can see here is my favorite. Okay.

All right. I’m going to go over there. Yeah. It’s nearly depleted also. Oh yeah. But have a look. Okay.

It’s amazing. I make these places so complicated. But I try to understand what’s going on. And even after Daryl explains everything to me, I still don’t understand. All I wanted to know was, okay, they grill, but what do they grill? Like, can I get grilled chicken there? But apparently, it seems like it’s only grilled fish, and I’m not in the mood for grilled fish. So, even though that grill is the one Daryl recommends, I don’t really want fish. So, I’m going to go to the other barbecue. Is that the difference? That’s a grill. This is a barbecue. I’m not a foodie. So, and I told Daryl, I’m coming here, and he says, “Oh, well, they’re almost depleted. They may not have any food left.” I’m like, “Well, I’ll go, I’ll go look.” So, again, I don’t really know how this works, which is kind of why I always go to buffets. You don’t actually have to think. You just grab a plate and serve yourself. And you don’t have to worry about what you’re getting.

Okay. So, anyway, I’m going to get some rice and then fill up a plate. Things made sense in the end. Yeah, there’s the roast duck expert, and. Thank you. And he helped me out because I just wanted to get rice and then move along the display, the buffet. And.

But he wasn’t giving me any rice. He was like looking at me like I had to make a decision, and I didn’t know. But turns out all of the roast duck is behind him on a special counter. So if you want the roast duck, which is their specialty, you tell him that, and then he gets you the rice, and then puts roast duck on your plate. And now we’ve got music underway. So this may be the end of the video here. So, there’s the famous roast duck, eggplant, and rice. Now, I got to go find a table or find Jamie and Daryl. So, I think this was the meal that Jamie was putting together. Maybe this is Daryl’s meal. I’m not really sure. They, the boys came and dropped off their food, and then they disappeared. Maybe they’re getting drinks or something. But yeah, a band is playing. So, it’s probably can’t record much more. We’re between songs, so very quickly. Well, I think they’re tuning up. They’re going to get started again. But yeah, the sauce is very, very good. That seems to be the key to this duck business. Very nice sauce. Jamie tried it. Said there was something special about it, but I don’t know what. Music is back. Daryl, what did you settle on? I took the lama chicken. Okay. Curry, the mango salad, but I drizzle some of the papaya, which they usually serve with the grilled fish. I asked her if I may. She said, “Okay.” And then just a cucumber with two chilies. Okay. That’s all simple. 8.50. 8.50. Yeah. Yeah. Good price. Oh man. Value. Superb. And both of these plates are Jamie’s. He got it all for 13 ringgit. And then my duck was 15. Yeah. Good value here. One more time. The name. Look at this. Look at this. Sorry, but good news. The band isn’t playing anymore, but this is where they were set up. There’s the name of the band. Apparently, if you, they can play live music for your event right there. But, yeah, just all done. That was a really good meal. Enjoyed that a lot. The eggplant, and I found this sauce that came with the duck. Really tasty. And Daryl and Jamie both tasted it, and they both reacted like, “Whoa, so smoky.” They said it had a really smoky flavor, and I guess that’s what made it special. I thought it tasted really good, but I didn’t pick up any on any smokiness, but they have a better palate than I do. They noticed flavors and things. And here is a, yeah, drinks place.

I was thinking about if I can get one real quick, maybe I’ll get one. What have they got here?

Yeah, jambu batu. I don’t know what that is. I think I’ll get one of these.

Hello. Jambu batu. Jambu batu.

You want jambu batu? Yes, please. Okay. You want something? Sour. Is it sour? Ah, sour plum. Okay, that’s what it is. Ah, yes. Maybe. No, thank you. No, I don’t know.

You want big or small? Small. Small. Okay. Is that six ringgit? Yes. Thank you. Okay. Okay. Well, I don’t even know what is jambu batu. I don’t know what it is.

This one. Oh, okay. So, that’s a jambu batu. Jambu. Oh, okay.

I had no idea what that drink was. And then they asked me there was some sort of a sweeten, no, a sour, some kind of a sour little dried up fruit. Do you want these? And I kind of said no. Maybe they’re supposed to come with this drink, and she showed me a fruit and said, “Okay, this is jambu batu.” She was very surprised that I didn’t even know what it was. He got one out to show me, but yeah, I don’t know anything about fruit, but anyway, there’s my drink. And try not to spill it inside Daryl’s car, if I can even find his car. What am I doing? There he is.

I got a something called jambu batu. Jambu. Yeah. I have no idea what it is. Guava. Oh, it’s guava. Okay, that’s it, I guess, for today. Anyway, I’m back at the Raja Chulan. Back in my hotel room. Daryl just dropped me off. He dropped Jamie off at his place. He’s staying in a different part of Kuala Lumpur. So yeah, that was a really great Daryl excursion. I’ve gone out with Daryl on his errand runs quite often when he needs to do something in KL, get his car worked on or something connected with his work or his family, anything at all. And then he says, “Yeah, do you want to hop in the car and come with me as I run my errands?” And yeah, I often say yes. And then we end up having an amazing day because Daryl puts into the day stopovers at these amazing restaurants and cafés. So, we had that incredible breakfast. Quite a fancy café there. That was quite nice. And then the, what I had, I had the roast duck, I guess. No, it’s not grilled. It was not bar. I don’t know. It was baked. I don’t know what it was. But anyway, I had the duck there, and that was a really interesting lunch as well. Yeah, really tasty. So, that’s it. Shutting down for today anyway. And this could be the end of this KL Vignettes video. And if it is, I’ll say, well, go check out the Planet Doug Patreon. You never know.
